What MSPs do...
MSP stands for Member of the Scottish Parliament. MSPs are elected representatives who have been chosen to work on behalf of the people of Scotland.
MSPs represent the people of Scotland on matters that can be decided by the Scottish Parliament. These devolved matters include education, health and the environment.
MSPs speak in debates and ask questions of Scottish Ministers. Most MSPs sit on at least one of the Scottish Parliament’s committees, and many are members of Cross-Party Groups.
As the Parliament is a law-making body, one of the main roles of the MSPs is to scrutinise and vote on proposals for new laws, known as bills. MSPs who are not Scottish Ministers may also propose their own bills, which are known as Members’ bills.
MSPs also answer letters, emails and enquiries from the people they represent
